This weekend, I caught up with the “Heard It All Before” hit-maker Sunshine Anderson at the Flashback Fresh Fest in Petersberg, Virginia. The show featured featured legendary hip hop group Whodini but it was Sunshine Anderson who stole the show. With her soulful and captivating lyrics that promoted dismissal of a no-good man the songstress teased us with a flashback of good music.
After the show, I got a chance to sit down with Sunshine on her tour bus. During the interview, she revealed how she maintains her figure, her favorite store to shop at (not a thrift store), relationship advice and when we can expect more music from her. Check it out below.
Thrifting Huntsville: What is your beauty secret?
Sunshine Anderson: My number one beauty secret is IASO tea. In January, I partnered with Total Life Changes and it has absolutely changed my life. It is a health and wellness company that specializes in everything beauty. I’m talking to myself when I state this “remove your makeup every night.”
Thrifting Huntsville: What items do you wear most in your closet?
Sunshine Anderson: Leggings and a t-shirt. I am all about comfort-ability. When you are traveling 2-3 times a week doing shows it becomes a bit much. When I am able to relax you can find me lounging in leggings and a t-shirt.
She is hilarious. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make her a believer in thrifting.
Thrifting Huntsville: Do you consider yourself high maintenance? Would you shop at a thrift store?
Sunshine Anderson: I do not consider myself high maintenance. However, I would not shop at a thrift store. I am not that type of girl. I may not shop at the thrift store but I love shopping at Target. Target is probably the smallest place I would shop at.
Thrifting Huntsville: With songs like “Lunch and Dinner” and “Heard It All Before” you have given women new anthems to sing across the world. What is the best piece of advice you can give to a woman in a relationship?
Sunshine Anderson: The best advice I can give a female in a relationship as cliche as it may sound is not to lose yourself. Remember that you exist. You don’t exist through him. Make sure to take care of yourself and if he leaves you will be alright.
Thrifting Huntsville: On Instagram you posted we can expect new music from you in the last quarter of 2015. Have you narrowed down an exact date?
Sunshine Anderson: I have a single I am releasing on iTunes at the end of 2015. I definitely have another anthem up my sleeve and it won’t be pretty. You can expect a lot of Sunshine in the New Year.
There you have it…expect 2016 to bring in the Sunshine. I would like to give a special thanks to Mary & Soul Logistics Radio for providing a great way to spend a Saturday. Considering, I am not from the area it was nice to enjoy a low-key evening trying various foods/drinks from the local vendors. I felt right at home as I listened to smooth old-school tunes surrounded by “my” people.
