Cutting my hair was the one of the best decisions I’ve ever made….

A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.  -Coco Chanel

Hey Thriftanistas!

A few weeks ago, I decided to cut off all my hair.  And it felt good.  Honestly, it felt great.  For twenty years, I have experimented with so many styles (most that included weaves).  From poetic justice braids to waterfalls (you remember those?) you name it I’ve tried it.  I never knew how a few course strands (4c hair here) could inhibit so much that I was unaware of.  For me, this haircut was like starting over on this thing we call “life.”

I cut off damage.

I literally and physically cut off the damage.  I’m sure you remember reading about my missing edges and weight gain.  As much as I tried to revive my hair with products my friends suggested it was dead, and I knew I had to start over.  As Beyoncé stated, “I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.”  This lesson is true for hair and life you can’t breathe life into a dead situation.  When things fall apart or die it’s time to rebuild.  Start over.

I cut off my weekly visits to the beautician

Over the years, I’ve learned time is one of the most important things you own.  You can’t buy it.  You can’t get it back.  I look back on too many instances where I wasted time.  While I was spending hours in the beauty salon or working to buy bundles (yep, I said it!). 😉 I could have been learning to swim, meeting new people or traveling.  In hindsight, I didn’t really value the time I had as something significant.  Now, I can get dressed within 15 minutes and those hour beauty shop visits have been replaced with more date nights with the hubby. #winning

I cut off what society states is beautiful.

Society would like for you to believe that “beauty” is long hair with a side part and barrel curls.  I’m sorry but a lot of females are rocking the same style…where’s the originality?   Nothing conveys style, like a fierce haircut (hence, Grace Jones).  A shaved head says everything without saying anything at all.  It says a woman is finally owning who she truly is.  I must admit this hairstyle has taken some time to get used too but it has taught me a lot about myself.  I’m free.  I have style. And yes, I am beautiful.

Finally, I cut off everything and found myself.

  1. When I shaved my head last year, I literally felt free. I love it . I feel as you get older and really don’t care about what society feels about you , you just learn to do you and make you happy!
